I’m about to share with you my three go-to hacks for when I have zero inspiration to create content. There’s a big ol’ misconception that as a creative, or as a copywriter, you’ve got an endless stream of creative juices, motivation and inspiration for content.
Lol. No.
I have days where I lack the zing of inspiration and motivation when it comes to creatin’ the content.
And yes, it is exactly is what sounds like.
Make it a habit to bank stories or ideas as they come to you. It’s like your own little vault of inspiration when you are feeling zapped.
Maybe it’s ideas that hit at 3am or an experience you have at a local cafe that makes you think ‘I can use that’, it could even be something you see on the ‘gram that inspires you.
Now put all those ideas into one place.
Not a little bit in this Google Doc, a little bit in that notebook, a little bit here in the team’s agenda, or the notes app of your phone.
Have a single centralised place where you can house all of your content ideas.
When you are coming up empty and staring into your screen, you’ll be phantom hi-5ing your past self for proving a ready made pool of content for you to dive straight into.
Personally? I use Google Docs because I can take that with me wherever I go. Whether it’s on my phone or my laptop (I can almost always be guaranteed to have one of them on me) it’s quick and easy for me to throw in a concept on the fly.
This happens all the time. So much of the Wordfetti content is drawn from my own lived experiences, and so many would pass me by if I didn’t actively note them down in the moment.
This is one of the first things I do when I’m coming up dry in the creative juices department.
The thing is, when it comes to content, it’s actually a conversation.
That conversation is already happening with your audience.
So pay attention and listen.
What are they listening to or reading? What’s trending in their worlds?
Have a look at some of the content that they may be sharing or what they’re sharing in their stories, the pain points that they’re expressing heck, even reread some of the comments that they’ve shared in your previous posts and start lurking and seeing what those patterns are.
Instead of thinking ‘what am I going to say today’, or ‘I don’t know what I should be sharing’, ask yourself…
What does my audience want to see?
What do they want to know?
How do they want to feel?
Truthbomb?
It’s actually not all about you.
When it comes to creating content, you’ve got to remember you’re creating content for your audience, it’s all about what stops them scrolling and gets their eyeballs locked on you.
This goes hand in hand with Hack #2. Pay attention, listen and then think about what they want to her from you.
What’s relevant to them right now? What can you share with them that serves them and their pain points?
Creative blocks are an annoying and normal part of business life but I hope you can get those juices flowing again with these three simple hacks.
And if you’re still strugglin’? The Caption Formula Workshop might be just what you need. I’ll step you through crafting captions that’ll knock your audiences socks off, and take the pressure off you.
